During the last week of April we drove to Palo Duro Canyon (SE of Amarillo) and Caprock Canyon (SE of Palo Duro) state parks.
The weather was overcast and rainny, temperature in the mid 40's, and with a strong wind blowing. We were
very cold after a couple of days of this "Blue Norther" weather. We need to return when it is warmer and
take the time to hike a few of the trails. More information at: Palo Duro Canyon Home Page, Caprock Canyon State Park May 1, 2004, Palo Duro Canyon State Park: A very impressive canyon with park road looping about 16 miles into the park. We did not hike the 6 mile round trip to the Lighthouse, the most prominate feature of the park. Make sure you visit the park museum near the overlook at the park entrance.

May 1, 2004, Caprock Canyon State Park: We feel Caprock Canyon (road about 5 miles) is prettier than Palo Dura Canyon with more rock formations, trails, and campgrounds. We camped at the Little Red tent campground (tables, restrooms) sleeping in the minivan. Put up the sun tarp on the side of the van and had to get up at 2AM to take it down as the wind was blowing so hard the flapping kept us awake. The wind had not let up in the morning so we broke camp and drove to Turkey, Texas for breakfast at the Turkey Hotel. We enjoyed this park and will return to hike some of the trails.
